Certified Nurses Aides, also commonly called as nurse assistants, nurse aides and hospital assistants are valuable member of multidisciplinary team, consisting of LPN, RN, physician and other health care professionals. They work under the supervision of a RN or physicians in a variety of health care settings and execute duties as assigned for direct cares and report RN constantly about the condition of the patients under their care.
In order to work in the health care settings, CNAs must successfully complete accredited CNA training program having duration of 6-12 weeks or minimum OBRA -87 approved 75 hours program, consisting of classroom instructions and clinical hands-on experience, under the supervision of a RN or LPN. The completion of the nurse aide training makes the students eligible to sit in the CNA Certification exam and passing of the exam gets candidate registered with the state Nurse Aide Registry and earn CAN Licensure and licensure no. from state Board of Nursing .
CNA Exam
Certified nurse aide exam features both Written Test and Skill test, where
Written Test comprises of multiple test questions and based on the classroom instructions of the training program.
Clinical Exam – requires demonstration of 5 skills on a live model or a dummy, based on the skills practices during training program.
If you successfully pass both segments of the CNA test and meet the requirements, you will be awarded CAN License.
The basic requirements that must be completed by you include:
Minimum age must be 18 years and above
Must have successfully completed CNAS Training program.
At least High school Diploma or GED.
Proficiency in English.
License Renewal
The CNA License is valid for a limited time period and you will have to get it renewed before it is expired. You will have to pay license renewal fee and few states requires the license holders complete certain hours of continue education.
